What to say to your insurance adjuster after a car accident

First and foremost, after sustaining injuries in a car accident, you need to go to a hospital immediately. Three Texans, including an infant, went to nearby hospitals after a recent rollover crash. You need to do the same even if you feel all right after a collision.

After you see a doctor, you need to get in touch with your auto insurance provider. You need to do this within 24 hours of the car crash. With this phone call, you need to be mindful of what you tell your insurance adjuster. Saying the wrong thing can seriously compromise your claim.

Keep it brief

You may not have all the facts immediately after a car accident. You never want to guess about details regarding the crash because if an adjuster can prove you lied or misspoke, then it will actively work against you. You mostly just need to say you were in an accident, and you need to see a doctor. You should not say, "I feel fine," because that statement can potentially work against you. You need to make it clear you do not know what your injuries are at this time and still require a medical examination.

Do not admit any blame

Even if you believe you hold some liability, you should not say it to your insurance company right away. You may think you are responsible, but extra details brought to light by a police investigation could prove the other driver is more to blame.

Avoid accepting settlements

The insurance company may try to get you to settle as soon as possible. Getting money right away seems tempting, but your claim could be worth more. Instead, during the initial call, you should direct the adjuster to your attorney. Your lawyer should handle most of the communications with your insurance provider because he or she will know how to deal with these people.
