Was speeding the cause of your rear-end crash?

Why did a car hit yours from behind when you stopped at an intersection? Was the other driver distracted? Was he using a cellphone?

While it is obvious that he was not paying attention, speeding was the real reason the driver struck your car from behind and caused your head injury.

Recognizing the dangers

According to statistics compiled by the National Highway Transportation Safety Board, speeding was responsible for 10,111 fatalities across our country in 2016. That figure represented 27 percent of all highway deaths that year. If a speeding car slams into yours from behind, the results could be devastating. The driver likely did not adjust for the increased stopping distance required at greater speeds--and your car was in the way.

Aggressive behavior

Speeding is recognized as a form of aggressive behavior. While most motorists do not habitually drive this way, some resort to speeding frequently. Circumstances that cause this may be slow-moving traffic or running late for an appointment. In our modern world, many people have packed daily schedules and the "speed demons" among us work their frustrations out by the aggressive way they drive.

Dire results

You are fortunate to have survived a rear-end collision caused by a driving who was speeding, but the injuries you suffered may be significant. Your head injury might be a concussion or a traumatic brain injury. Whiplash and injuries to the back and spine are also common in this type of crash. While there can be many factors involved in such an accident, Texas law presumes that the driver who hit you is at fault. If this is the case, the law entitles you to full and fair compensation for your injuries.

Endangering others

Someone who resorts to speeding is breaking the law, but more than that, he or she is endangering other drivers and their passengers. Remember that there are more cars on the road today than ever before, and therefore more aggressive, speeding drivers. That simple fact puts you and every other motorist at risk for roadway accidents, including rear-end collisions.
