How many truck crashes happen per year?

On Behalf of | Sep 9, 2017 | blog

Traffic collisions of any kind can be devastating and may lead to either significant injuries or death. However, this is especially true when it comes to accidents involving a large truck. In Houston, and other cities throughout Texas, trucks can be particularly hazardous for a number of reasons. For example, a large truck driver could struggle to bring their vehicle to a stop in time and the larger size of these trucks can make the impact of a collision even more disastrous. Whether you drive a large truck or are afraid that you may be struck by one in the future, reviewing statistics on the prevalence of these accidents could be useful.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, roughly 415,000 large truck crashes were reported to authorities over the course of 2015. Among fatal large truck accidents, about 25 percent happened on an urban or rural interstate highway, while roughly 60 percent took place on rural roads. Tragically, large trucks were involved in over 4,300 deadly accidents during 2015, while 87,000 were part of an accident that left someone injured.

These accidents can bring physical pain to those who survive but are left with an injury, emotional pain to families who lose a loved one, and other hardships, such as financial burdens. For victims of large truck collisions, going over any resources that are available is important. These accidents are sometimes caused by careless truck drivers, negligent trucking companies, or inadequate truck maintenance, among other reasons. Sadly, preventable truck collisions ruin far too many lives per year.
